Gyeonggi Province will provide up to 20 million KRW to prospective and early-stage pet-related startup founders.
The Gyeonggi Economic Science Promotion Agency announced on the 5th that it will recruit participants online from the 5th to the 25th of this month through the Gyeonggi Startup Platform (www.gsp.or.kr) for the "Pet Industry Startup Discovery and Startup Support" project aimed at fostering the pet-related industry. This year, 10 prospective and 10 early-stage startup founders will be selected respectively.
The recruitment fields include pet industry-related items such as ▲premium pet food ▲health and care products ▲beauty and fashion products ▲furniture ▲information and communication technology (ICT) combined products. Small business startups such as pet shops, simple wholesale and retail businesses, and distribution businesses are excluded.
This project is designed to nurture prospective and early-stage startup founders who aim to commercialize ideas and creative technologies related to the pet industry.
If selected as a support recipient, early-stage startup founders will receive up to 20 million KRW, and prospective startup founders will receive 12 million KRW as commercialization funds.
Additionally, participants will receive capacity-building education according to their startup stage (prospective or early-stage) and create opportunities for sustainable growth of startup companies through networking among pet industry stakeholders.
Park Yeon-gyeong, head of the Pet Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We are striving to expand financial support and beneficiary companies to spread the startup culture in the rapidly growing pet industry sector," adding, "Gyeonggi Province will lead pet policies with the vision of realizing ‘Gyeonggi AniWel (AniWel)’, where humans and animals are happy together."
Meanwhile, since starting the project in 2017, Gyeonggi Province has supported a total of 127 startup founders to date.
