Jeonnam Secures 9 Trillion Won National Budget, Including Support for Farmers and Fishermen

"Will Lead Regime Judgment and Regional Development to a Strong Finish"

Seo Sam-seok, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea and National Assemblyman for Yeongam, Muan, and Sinan, officially registered as a preliminary candidate for the 22nd National Assembly election at the Muan County Election Commission on the 4th and has begun full-scale election campaigning.

The Democratic Party of Korea's Public Election Candidate Recommendation Management Committee announced on the 1st, during the 9th candidate screening, that the Yeongam, Muan, and Sinan electoral district would be a primary contest area.

Preliminary candidate Seo Sam-seok is a two-term National Assemblyman representing Yeongam, Muan, and Sinan counties and currently serves as the chairman of the National Assembly's Special Committee on Budget and Accounts.

Candidate Seo stated, "When I was elected in the 2018 National Assembly by-election, I greeted the Assembly as a humble messenger representing the interests of ordinary citizens and agricultural, fishery, and livestock farmers," adding, "I will return to that initial resolve and take the lead in judging the administration and regional development to complete my work well."

He also said, "Please judge who is the right person to overcome the crisis of regional extinction and take responsibility for regional development," and added, "With proven experience and capability, I will more powerfully drive the development of Yeongam, Muan, and Sinan."

Candidate Seo emphasized, "All of Jeollanam-do, including Yeongam, Muan, and Sinan, faces a crisis of regional extinction due to population decline," and said, "I was the first to propose the Special Act on Support for Areas Facing Population Extinction in the 21st National Assembly, which was passed and implemented on the ground."

He further stated, "Since the law was enacted in July last year, there have been some parts that do not keep up with the field," and added, "I will enhance the law's effectiveness through supplementary legislation so that the lives of local residents can tangibly feel the impact."

Seo, elected as chairman of the National Assembly's Special Committee on Budget and Accounts?the first from the Jeonnam and Gwangju constituencies in 22 years?has led the era of a 9 trillion won national budget for Jeonnam. Notably, he increased the budget during the National Assembly review stage by 11.07 billion won for 18 new major projects and 349.9 billion won for 7 ongoing projects in Yeongam, Muan, and Sinan in 2024.

Regarding this, candidate Seo said, "Securing the budget to support local long-standing projects is an essential ability and qualification for a constituency National Assembly member," and added, "I have sufficiently proven this by serving as a member and chairman of the Budget and Accounts Committee for three years during my six-year term."

He also said, "I restored a significant portion of the budget for supporting farmers and fishermen, which the government had completely cut," and added, "During difficult times, I allocated a warm budget to comfort agricultural, fishery, and livestock farmers even a little."

Seo Sam-seok, a former three-term Muan County governor, entered the National Assembly by running in the 2018 by-election for Yeongam, Muan, and Sinan. Since then, he has held key party positions such as chairman of the Democratic Party's Jeonnam Provincial Party Committee, deputy floor leader (budget), and senior secretary-general, leading the Democratic Party to victory in every election.

He also enhanced his stature as a representative politician of Honam by serving as chairman of the National Assembly's Special Committee on Budget and Accounts and chairman of the National Assembly's Special Committee on Climate Crisis.
