The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province will start a support program for purchasing eco-friendly vehicles such as electric cars from this month. The subsidies are ▲ 32.5 million KRW (fixed amount) for hydrogen passenger cars ▲ up to 9.4 million KRW for electric passenger cars ▲ up to 16 million KRW for electric cargo vehicles.
Suwon City will first provide 32.5 million KRW for purchasing the hydrogen passenger car Nexo (Hyundai Motor Company) per vehicle. Additionally, 4 million KRW is supported for ultra-small electric passenger cars, and up to 9.4 million KRW for regular passenger cars. Electric cargo vehicles can receive up to 16 million KRW in support.
The number of supported electric vehicles includes 1,100 electric passenger cars, 300 electric cargo vehicles, and 80 hydrogen passenger cars. The eco-friendly vehicle distribution project will continue until the budget is exhausted.
Eligibility for application requires applicants to be Suwon citizens who have continuously resided in Suwon for at least 60 days based on the subsidy application criteria, or businesses, organizations, and corporations with an address in Suwon.
Applications can be made by signing a purchase contract at the vehicle sales location for the desired model and submitting the application within two months when vehicle delivery and registration are possible. Applications can be submitted through the Zero Emission Vehicle Integrated Website.
A Suwon city official stated, "We will actively promote eco-friendly vehicles to improve air quality," and urged, "We hope many citizens will use eco-friendly vehicles."
Meanwhile, Suwon City has established and is implementing a plan to promote eco-friendly vehicle distribution with the goal of achieving 17% eco-friendly vehicle adoption by 2030.
