He introduced himself as the owner of a coffee shop on the first floor and asked employee Mr. B to show him a gold bracelet for a wedding gift. Mr. A told Mr. B, "I am close friends with the owner of this jewelry store," and requested to see the wedding gold bracelet. When Mr. B brought out a gold bracelet worth 8.2 million won, Mr. A expressed his intention to buy it and said, "My wife will come this afternoon to make the payment."
Sensing something suspicious, employee Mr. B called the owner, but the call did not connect. Mr. A pressured the employee, saying, "Don't you trust me now?" Eventually, Mr. B handed over the gold bracelet, and Mr. A took a taxi and fled.
Soon after realizing he had been deceived by Mr. A, Mr. B reported the incident to 112. Detectives who arrived at the scene reviewed the CCTV footage to identify the suspect’s appearance and escape method.
The police discovered that Mr. A had paid the taxi fare with a card. They tracked down the convenience store where he last used the card, gradually narrowing the distance to Mr. A. Two days later, Mr. A was caught by detectives lying in wait near his residence.
