The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport held a public contest for the ‘2024 Drone Demonstration City Construction Project’ from January 12 to February 16 to promote new drone services and drone commercialization.

This year, 36 local governments and 46 drone companies applied, and Busan City achieved the great success of being finally selected as a drone demonstration city along with 16 other local governments.

Accordingly, the city will receive 500 million KRW in national funding and carry out the project until the end of November this year.

For the drone demonstration city contest, the city formed a consortium including ▲Busan Technopark ▲Marine Drone Technology ▲P&U Drone, which possess excellent drone technology and demonstration capabilities and experience, as well as ▲Busan International Ship Supplies Distribution Business Cooperative, responsible for logistics and distribution.

The selected project involves port drone delivery utilizing Busan’s geographical advantages, providing delivery services of ship supplies and food to vessels anchored at Busan Port and visitors to offshore fishing spots via drones.

Through this project, the city plans to establish a port drone delivery operation system and infrastructure, aiming to provide efficient services using these resources, thereby contributing to the revitalization of Busan’s regional economy and enhancing citizen convenience through drones.

Shin Chang-ho, Director of the Digital Economy Innovation Office of Busan City, stated, “We will standardize the drone delivery service model centered on the marine environment, promote expansion to major domestic ports, and export specialized drone delivery systems to support local drone companies in developing globally.”
