Cheongsong-gun Holds 120th Anniversary Memorial Ceremony for Cheongsong Uibyeongjang Soryu Sim Seongji The memorial ceremony for the national resistance of Cheongsong militia leader Soryu Sim Seong-ji on the 104th anniversary of the March 1st Movement.

Organized by the Soryu Seonsaeng Memorial Association (Chairman Sim Hong-seop), the event included a memorial service and a special lecture titled "The Life and Scholarship of Soryu Seonsaeng," delivered by Kwon Jin-ho, Head of the Humanities Convergence Division at the Korea Institute of Korean Studies.

Soryu Sim Seong-ji was appointed as the militia leader of Cheongsong at the age of 66 when the country was in dire peril following the assassination of Empress Myeongseong in 1895 and the implementation of the short hair ordinance. He achieved military successes in battles such as the Andeok and Gameun-ri battles. Afterwards, deeply concerned about the nation's future, he devoted himself solely to scholarship with dozens of disciples until his death in 1904.

Among the works left by the teacher are the "Jeokwon Diary," a record compiled by secretaries documenting battle situations, as well as the "Soryu Anthology," "Gangbyeongron," and "Yeongyaeum," which have been preserved.

County Governor Yoon Kyung-hee stated, "Taking this memorial ceremony as an opportunity, we will uphold the upright scholar spirit and patriotic loyalty of Soryu Sim Seong-ji, transforming it into an energy for regional development and ensuring that its inheritance and advancement are not neglected."
