Gyeonggi Province has designated the entire month of March, when fine particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations are high in spring, as the "Intensive Fine Dust Reduction Response Period" and will implement practical fine dust reduction measures focused on emission sources.
According to air pollutant emission statistics, Gyeonggi Province announced on the 1st that it will focus on reduction measures by emission source in the order of fugitive dust (40%), non-road mobile sources (21%), biogenic combustion (18%), and on-road mobile sources (9%).
Accordingly, during the month of March, to effectively reduce fugitive dust, the province will ▲ increase the operation of street cleaning vehicles (457 units) from twice to four times ▲ manage 1,346 construction sites and businesses generating fugitive dust ▲ conduct special inspections of vehicle emissions and idling vehicles.
In addition, 547 members of the "Fine Dust Reduction Private Monitoring Group" from 24 cities and counties will be selected to designate areas densely populated with air pollution sources as intensive crackdown zones to block illegal activities.
Lee Yoon-sung, Director of the Air Environment Management Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "As this is the time when outdoor activities begin, we will do our best to reduce fine dust so that residents can enjoy comfortable leisure time."
