Creating a 'Theme Street' as a Landmark through Renovation of Aging Sidewalks, Flower Beds, and Green Space Improvement
Design and Detailed Planning Services to be Completed by June This Year, Project Aiming for Completion by June Next Year
Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it will promote the "Sinwol 4-dong Walkable Street Renovation Project" to secure pedestrian safety by renovating old sidewalks and flower beds, and to improve the urban landscape by creating a themed street.
The street from Omok-ro 3-gil 51 to Omok-ro 4-gil 11 in Sinwol 4-dong, created in 2005, is a sidewalk section with a width of 2 to 10 meters and a two-way length of 1,200 meters. Partial repairs to the pavement have resulted in a lack of pattern uniformity, and many street symbols have aged significantly, greatly detracting from the urban aesthetics. Additionally, bicycle racks, various collection boxes, and trees scattered throughout the sidewalks have obstructed passage, raising the need for comprehensive street maintenance after 20 years since its establishment.
Accordingly, the district plans to complete the design and detailed engineering survey for the Sinwol 4-dong Walkable Street Renovation by June this year, start construction in July, and aim to complete the project by June next year.
The improvement directions include ▲ reestablishing the street’s horizontal orientation reflecting the characteristics of the street and pedestrian patterns ▲ renovating green spaces such as flower beds ▲ improving old sidewalks and applying aesthetic patterns ▲ installing indirect lighting and photo zones reflecting local characteristics ▲ reorganizing public facilities and lighting locations based on environmental surveys.
In particular, the district intends to create a "themed street" by utilizing the natural elements around the street, such as pine and cherry blossom trees, and considering the high foot traffic near residential and commercial areas.
Furthermore, a briefing session related to the renovation will be held for local residents and merchants in the first half of the year to actively communicate.
Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “We will carry out this renovation project without fail so that the Sinwol 4-dong Walkable Street can establish itself as a representative local walking spot with a theme.”
