Gijang-gun Holds 'March 1st Movement Commemoration Ceremony' Honoring the Noble Spirit of Patriotic Activists

Busan Gijang-gun will hold the '105th Anniversary of the March 1st Movement Ceremony' at 10 a.m. on March 1st at the Gijang Anti-Japanese Movement Memorial Tower Square in Saemaeul Children's Park, Gijang-eup.

The ceremony is organized to honor the noble spirit of patriotic martyrs from Gijang-gun who fought for independence during the Japanese colonial period and to promote love for the country and national spirit. About 300 people, including descendants of independence activists from Gijang-eup and local residents, will attend.


The event will proceed in the order of ▲reading of the proclamation ▲commemorative speech ▲flower offering and incense burning ▲singing of the March 1st Movement song ▲and three cheers for independence. Prior to the main ceremony, from 9:40 a.m., a pre-ceremony performance will feature the Gijang Youth Recorder Ensemble and the Gijang Haesong Women's Choir.


County Governor Jeong Jong-bok said, “On the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the March 1st Movement, I hope this will be an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of the anti-Japanese movement and the noble spirit of the patriotic martyrs.” He added, “I also ask all residents to participate in the responsibility of proudly passing down our history to future generations by displaying the national flag in every household.”


On the same day, at 11 a.m., the '105th Anniversary of the March 1st Movement Ceremony in Jeonggwan-eup' will be held in front of the Jeonggwan Patriotic Martyrs Memorial Tower inside Jeonggwan Museum, organized by the Jeonggwan-eup Residents' Autonomy Committee (Chairman Moon Jae-cheol). The cheers honoring the noble spirit of independence activists are expected to resonate throughout Gijang-gun.
