February 25-27, 40 Participants Join the '2024 Gangnam-gu Disabled Persons Winter Camp'... Enjoying Lessons and Recreation-
Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) held the "2024 Disabled Persons Harmony Winter Camp" in Hoengseong, Gangwon-do from the 25th to the 27th to allow people with developmental disabilities to enjoy recreational sports and communicate with non-disabled individuals.
Hosted and organized by the Gangnam-gu Disabled Sports Association, the event was attended by a total of 40 participants, including 20 adolescents with developmental disabilities and 20 non-disabled individuals. The camp was designed with various programs such as ski lessons, a winter sport, recreational activities to enjoy together, and a laser survival experience. Considering participants unfamiliar with skiing, the lesson curriculum focused on beginner courses including equipment fitting, basic gliding, and slope training. During the event, time was set aside for communication between disabled and non-disabled participants.
Meanwhile, this event was selected as a project by the Seoul Disabled Sports Association and received 20 million KRW in city funding. The district added 6 million KRW of its own funds and deployed 20 professional staff members, including ski instructors, youth leaders, social workers, and certified first aid personnel.
Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, said, "I hope this winter camp provided an opportunity for people with developmental disabilities to become healthy in body and mind," and added, "We will actively support disabled individuals to maintain their health through various recreational sports, including the 'Developmental Disabilities Walking Competition' to be held at Hwadamsup on April 30."
