The Seoul Metropolitan Gugak Orchestra has selected this year's master performers as Professor Lee Ji-young of Seoul National University (Gayageum), Professor Yang Sung-won of Yonsei University (Cello), and Principal Na-rae Lee of the Seoul Metropolitan Gugak Orchestra (Daegeum). The conductor will be Cho Sang-wook, who is also the music director of Ensemble Ban.

Cellist Professor Yang Sung-won, who is the 4th Artistic Director of the PyeongChang Daegwallyeong Music Festival, will collaborate on the first piece, 'Miserere for Cello and Gugak Orchestra' (composed by Kim Sung-ki), based on the intonation of the Latin word 'Miserere'. This piece was commissioned by the Seoul Metropolitan Gugak Orchestra from composer Kim Sung-ki in 2004 and premiered with Yang Sung-won as the cello soloist. The same soloist and orchestra from 20 years ago will present the piece with even deeper tonal colors.

Principal Na-rae Lee will take the second stage. She will perform the Daegeum concerto 'A Beautiful Life for Daegeum Polonaise' (composed by Ahn Hyun-jung), based on the 17th-century Polish dance 'Polonaise'. Using the traditional Korean wind instrument Daegeum, she will deliver a lyrical and rhythmically rich Polonaise melody.

The third stage, curated by Professor Lee Ji-young, will be a Gayageum solo performance. For this concert, composer Kim Man-seok newly arranged and will premiere 'Seogongcheol-style Gayageum Sanjo Concerto - Simsuu (心授)'. Professor Lee Ji-young currently serves as the president of the Seogongcheol-style Gayageum Sanjo Preservation Society.

For the final stage, the Seoul Metropolitan Gugak Orchestra will perform the orchestral piece 'Gugak Orchestra by Menari Torie - House of Emotions'.

The Seoul Metropolitan Gugak Orchestra's third Master Performer Series 'Gongjon (共存, Coexistence)' concert tickets can be reserved through the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts website and the main phone number.
