Upgraded to Regional Emergency Medical Center
Expectations to Eliminate Emergency Medical Blind Spots
SMG Yonsei Hospital was designated as the first regional emergency medical center in the southern Gyeongnam area and held an opening ceremony on the 27th, officially beginning its operations.
At the opening ceremony, guests from various related departments attended, including National Assembly member Choi Hyung-doo, Jo Myung-rae, the 2nd Deputy Mayor of Changwon Special City, and the Vice Chairman of the Gyeongnam Provincial Council.
The regional emergency medical center is designated through a strict review process that evaluates compliance with legal standards related to emergency medical services, including laws and enforcement regulations, facilities, personnel, equipment, as well as the appropriateness of emergency patient treatment performance and plans.
Notably, the regional emergency medical centers in Changwon Special City had been concentrated in Uichang-gu and Seongsan-gu, but with the additional designation of SMG Yonsei Hospital, it is expected to contribute to resolving emergency medical blind spots in southern Gyeongnam, including Masanhappo-gu, Masanhoewon-gu, and the cities of Geoje, Tongyeong, and Goseong County.
A hospital official stated, “Residents of Masanhappo-gu, Hoewon-gu, and nearby Goseong County, Haman County, and Changnyeong County previously had to endure long travel times to visit a regional emergency medical center, but with this upgrade, the golden time for emergency diseases can be secured.”
Additionally, to achieve this regional emergency medical center upgrade, SMG Yonsei Hospital reorganized its facilities and personnel, expanding and improving infrastructure to respond to emergency situations 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Jung Jin-seok, head of the emergency medical center, said, “Through this upgrade to a regional emergency medical center, we can provide more proactive treatment to emergency patients, protecting precious lives and health,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to improve medical services and strengthen capabilities to provide active treatment and increase survival rates.”
Chairman Park Jae-gyun said, “I sincerely thank all the guests who attended today’s opening ceremony,” and added, “We will become the best regional emergency medical center that can save citizens’ lives.”
