Lifelong Learning Program to Study the Life Philosophy and Silhak Thought of Dasan Jeong Yak-yong
Program Runs Every Thursday for 12 Weeks Starting April 25

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) is recruiting the 25th batch of students to participate in the lifelong learning program "Dasan (茶山) Thought in Daily Life" until April 8.
"Dasan Thought in Daily Life" is a unique lifelong learning program in Gangbuk-gu where participants can learn about the life philosophy and practical learning ideas of Dasan Jeong Yak-yong. It was prepared to satisfy the lifelong learning needs of residents through high-quality humanities lectures by officials from the Dasan Research Institute and university professors.
The education period is from April 25 to July 18, consisting of a total 12-week course with 10 lectures and 2 field trips to Dasan historical sites in Suwon Hwaseong and Namyangju.
The lecture topics include Dasan Jeong Yak-yong’s thoughts and humanities courses such as ▲ Wisdom of life learned from Dasan ▲ Dasan’s Mokmin leadership and filial piety ▲ What is practical learning for us today? ▲ Stories of Joseon royal tombs ▲ History of modern science and technology development.
Anyone who is a resident of Gangbuk-gu or operates a business in Gangbuk-gu can participate in this program. The number of recruits is 60, and the tuition fee is 30,000 KRW. Those who wish to participate can apply online through the Gangbuk-gu Office website’s integrated reservation system or apply by phone or visit the Education Support Division of Gangbuk-gu Office (1035 Hancheon-ro, 10th floor).
If the number of applicants exceeds the number of recruits, students will be selected by lottery, and the selection results will be individually notified by text message on April 12. Graduates who complete the Dasan Thought in Daily Life program will also receive a certificate of completion issued by the Mayor of Gangbuk-gu and the President of Seoul Cyber University.
Mayor Lee Soon-hee of Gangbuk-gu said, “The practical learning ideas advocated by Jeong Yak-yong in the late Joseon period continue to provide great lessons to modern people today,” and added, “I hope many residents take the opportunity to broaden their insights through the Dasan Thought education course in daily life.”
