Muan County Council Urges Immediate Reconsideration of Jeonnam Regional Electoral District Delimitation Plan

"Lost Fairness and Rationality"... Strong Criticism

The Muan County Council of Jeollanam-do (Chairman Kim Kyung-hyun) announced on the 26th that it has called for an immediate reconsideration of the electoral district delineation plan for the Jeonnam region to be applied in the 22nd general election.

The council members strongly criticized the Jeonnam regional electoral district delineation plan, stating that it goes against the delineation criteria and principles, losing fairness and rationality.

They pointed out, "Although the central and western regions have 300,000 more people than the eastern region based on the total population of Jeonnam, the allocation of five electoral districts each to the central-western and eastern regions clearly violates the principle of population proportionality."

In particular, they raised their voices, saying, "The central and western regions include 3 to 4 local governments in one electoral district, failing to secure representation for agricultural and fishing villages, and worsening the imbalance between urban and rural areas. If this reverses sound local autonomy and ignores regional realities, it will provoke strong opposition from local residents."

Subsequently, the council members visited the Jeollanam-do Provincial Council and, together with metropolitan and basic council members from the central-western region, strongly appealed to the National Assembly's Electoral District Delineation Committee to immediately withdraw and reconsider the Jeonnam regional electoral district delineation plan.
