Newspaper Reporters Association Donates 20 Million Won Scholarship Fund
'Vigorous Youth, Ever-Green Righteous Opinion' Jeonbuk National University Newspaper celebrated its 70th anniversary. The 'Jeonbuk National University Newspaper,' which has opened the horizon of university journalism, held a meaningful commemorative event at Jinsudang, Jeonbuk National University on the 24th.
According to Jeonbuk National University on the 26th, about 100 people attended the commemorative event, including the Jeonbuk National University Newspaper and the Jeonbuk National University Newspaper Reporters' Association, the president of Jeonbuk National University (president of the Jeonbuk National University Newspaper), Kim Kwan-young, governor of Jeonbuk Province, Seo Geo-seok, superintendent of Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education, Woo Beom-gi, mayor of Jeonju, Jeong Seong-ju, mayor of Gimje, and Kim Jae-young, former weekly professor.
At the ceremony, two articles reported over the 70 years of the Jeonbuk National University Newspaper were selected and awarded the 'Sanmin Reporter Award.' 'Sanmin' was the pen name of the late Han Seung-heon, former chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection and advisor to the Jeonbuk National University Newspaper. The awarded works were the 'Local Excavation Series,' serialized over ten years from 1982 to 1992, and the 'Issue No. 77 Newspaper,' a special report on the April 19 Revolution.

The Jeonbuk National University Newspaper Reporters' Association also commemorated its 50th anniversary by generously donating 20 million won in scholarships to the university. The reporters' association was formed in the winter of 1974 by student reporters who ignited their youth and passion through the university newspaper, and they hold meetings annually.
President Yang said, "Since its founding in 1954 and reaching issue 1560, the Jeonbuk National University Newspaper has upheld the principles and fundamentals of university journalism despite numerous ups and downs," adding, "I hope the record of university history capturing vivid scenes will continue to the 100th anniversary and further to the 200th anniversary."
Kim Yong-kwon, president of the Jeonbuk National University Newspaper Reporters' Association and correspondent for Kukmin Ilbo in Jeonbuk, said, "Members who learned the spirit of the times and critical thinking from the university newspaper have been actively and fiercely engaged in society and various countries around the world," and added, "Let us strive for the development of our alma mater, region, and nation with the ever-green and vigorous spirit."
The Jeonbuk National University Newspaper was founded on February 16, 1954. Its company motto is Jinrichangdal (Truth Dissemination), Jeongrijeongron (Righteous Principle and Opinion), and Junminjajae (Agile and Free). It was the third national university newspaper published nationwide after Seoul National University and Kyungpook National University. At that time, the title was 'Jeonbuk Daehakgyobo,' and after establishing a weekly publication system in 1962, it published its 1000th issue in 1996 and recently its 1560th issue.
Members of the Jeonbuk National University Newspaper Reporters' Association have also been actively engaged in various fields of society, including journalists, writers, university professors, and business executives, based on the journalistic spirit learned in the university newspaper editorial office.
