Former Constitutional Court Justice Kim Young-il passed away on the 21st.


According to the legal community on the 23rd, former Justice Kim passed away at around 9:30 PM on the 21st due to an illness. He was 84 years old.


Former Justice Kim passed the 5th Judicial Examination in 1965 and served as Chief Judge of the Seoul High Court, Chief Judge of the Northern Branch of the Seoul District Court, and Chief Judge of the Busan District Court before being appointed as a Constitutional Court Justice in 1999. In August 1996, as the presiding judge of the 30th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court, he drew attention by sentencing former President Chun Doo-hwan to death and former President Roh Tae-woo to 22 years and 6 months in prison on charges related to the December 12 military coup and the violent suppression of the May 18 Democratic Uprising.


The funeral is being held at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital Funeral Hall, Room 5. The funeral procession will depart at 6 AM on the 25th, and the burial site is at the National Cemetery in Goesan-gun, Chungbuk. The bereaved family includes his wife, two daughters, and one son.
