IU revealed a handwritten letter she received from actress Tang Wei, who worked with her in her music video.
On the 23rd, IU posted several photos on her Instagram along with the caption, "A letter and photos sent by senior Tang Wei shortly after the shoot ended," and added, "I was deeply moved, so with her permission, I am sharing her letter as well."
The photos showed a handwritten letter in Korean by Tang Wei. She began, "Jieun, do you know? I wanted to tell you about two touching moments I felt during the shoot."
She continued, "When the director was directing me during the shoot, I heard the lyrics you wrote, 'Her mother, whose eyes resemble hers,' and it resonated deeply within me. It was something I had never thought about before," and reflected on IU's song lyrics, saying, "Since becoming a mother after having a child, mothers always focus on whether their child's eyes truly resemble theirs, but I think we never really considered whether we resemble our own mothers."
She added, "At that moment, I felt a strong desire to place my face next to my mother's, to look closely at her face in the mirror, or to take photos together and observe her in detail for a long time," and said, "Since it was Lunar New Year's Eve, and I would soon see my mother, I definitely want to do that."
Tang Wei also said, "Before filming the music video, I knew you would be playing my mother, but even when I entered the studio and met you, it was honestly hard to imagine," and continued, "However, once filming started, you stayed calmly on that wooden floor for a long time in the same pose, immersed in the lighting and acting. During that surreal and beautiful shoot, a scene suddenly came to my mind ? the feeling that my young mother was right beside me, and that my mother also had such a slender figure, smooth skin, and lively, sharp eyes."
Finally, Tang Wei wrote, "Jieun, thank you for creating such a beautiful memory for me. Today is Lunar New Year's Eve, and although I am in Beijing, far from you, I wish for your happiness and health. I will continue to look forward to your wonderful songs. I am your fan, Tang Wei."
IU, who received the letter, said, "The scene in the latter part of the music video where senior Tang Wei hugged me was her ad-lib. That moment was so touching it brought tears to my eyes," and added, "It was a day full of tension and excitement. I will always like it."
Netizens responded with comments such as, "The writing is so beautiful. Even as a Korean, I don't think I could write like that. So moving," "The letter reads like a movie," "Calm but resonant writing," and "How can someone express words so beautifully?"
Meanwhile, IU released her sixth mini-album, The Winning, on the 20th. The music video for the track "Shh.." featured Tang Wei, drawing much attention.
