On the 22nd, 'Bay Valley' Joint Research Service Report Meeting Held
12 Collaborative Projects Derived and Announced Between Chungnam Province and Gyeonggi Province
Joint Vision of Bay Valley to be Proclaimed at a Ceremony After the General Election
Chungnam Province and Gyeonggi Province will derive and promote 12 cooperative projects as part of the Bay Valley construction project.
On the 22nd, Chungnam Province held the 'Bay Valley Joint Research Service Report Meeting' at the Chungnam Provincial Government Office. The meeting was attended by about 30 people, including Jeon Hyung-sik, Deputy Governor for Political Affairs of Chungnam Province, Oh Byung-kwon, First Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi Province, and key department heads, to share the results of research services conducted by the Chungnam Research Institute and the Gyeonggi Research Institute.
At this meeting, the two research institutes presented 12 cooperative projects, including ▲ establishment of a future car cluster ▲ creation of a carbon-neutral hydrogen economy cluster in the West Coast area ▲ promotion of the 3rd West Coast Expressway ▲ construction of the Bay Valley circular railway metropolitan area expansion ▲ connection of Seohae Line-Kyungbu Line KTX and GTX-C expansion ▲ development of port logistics cluster and hinterland complex ▲ connection of West Coast marina port network ▲ establishment of stay-type tourism and leisure hubs ▲ construction of Gold Coast luxury road ▲ establishment of West Coast economic free zone belt ▲ joint response to marine waste collection and treatment ▲ creation of a global smart campus linked to station areas.
Among these, the establishment of the future car cluster includes reviewing the establishment of the 'Future Car Promotion Institute' to respond to the paradigm shift from internal combustion engines to electric and hydrogen vehicles, with Chungnam focusing on creating an autonomous driving mobility innovation ecosystem and Gyeonggi Province focusing on forming a hydrogen mobility convergence cluster.
The project to create a carbon-neutral hydrogen economy cluster in the West Coast area aims to develop Dangjin and Pyeongtaek cities as domestic hydrogen production and supply hubs based on hydrogen demand concentrated in Bay Valley and supply infrastructure such as ports. To this end, both provinces agreed to jointly designate Dangjin and Pyeongtaek as hydrogen-specialized complexes and explore ways to build a network among hydrogen cities.
Furthermore, detailed discussions will be held to finalize the cooperative projects, and a proclamation ceremony will be held after the general election to announce the Bay Valley joint vision.
Jeon Hyung-sik, Deputy Governor of Chungnam Province, said, "Asan Bay is a border area between the metropolitan and non-metropolitan regions, and through ultra-wide cooperation between Chungnam and Gyeonggi provinces, it is a region with high growth potential to lead the Korean economy." He added, "Both provinces will unite their efforts to promote the Bay Valley construction project to create food sources for Korea's next 50 to 100 years."
Meanwhile, Bay Valley is a super-regional and large-scale project aimed at developing the Asan Bay area into a global economic hub leading the 4th industrial revolution, including semiconductors and the hydrogen economy.
Ultimately, the project aims to invest 33 trillion won by 2050 to raise the regional gross domestic product (GRDP) from 55th place globally in 2020 to around 30th place at the national level.
Currently, the Asan Bay area is home to 3.3 million people, 230,000 companies, and 34 universities. The GRDP of this area reaches 204 trillion won.
In particular, Asan Bay hosts many global companies such as Samsung, Hyundai, and LG, already leading Korea's future industries such as semiconductors, future cars, and batteries.
