The Ministry of Education and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education jointly launched an inspection of illegal activities in the private academy sector and the preparation status of Neulbom School ahead of the new semester.

On the 22nd, Vice Minister of Education Oh Seok-hwan and Deputy Superintendent of Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Seol Se-hoon focused their joint inspection on large private academies that provoke parents' anxiety, such as preparatory classes for autonomous private high schools, and induce advanced learning, concentrating on illegal and unfair practices such as overcharging tuition fees.

Additionally, through a meeting with parents, they directly listened to various opinions regarding policies to reduce parents' private education expenses.

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will also conduct a special inspection until the end of next month targeting about 800 private academies and tutoring centers for violations related to tuition fees and advertisements that induce advanced learning. The main inspection items include overcharging tuition fees, collecting fees beyond registered tuition, violations of posting, signage, and notification regulations, false or exaggerated advertisements, and advertisements inducing advanced learning (such as medical school entrance exam classes).

Afterwards, Vice Minister Oh checked the preparation status of support offices and schools for the operation of Neulbom School in 2024 at the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and the Gangdong-Songpa Education Support Office in Seoul, and gathered on-site opinions.

Vice Minister Oh stated, "We are comprehensively promoting educational reform tasks, including Neulbom School, so that the burden of private education expenses can be tangibly reduced," and added, "To ensure the successful establishment of Neulbom School, we will prepare support measures needed by metropolitan and provincial offices of education and schools, such as providing quality programs, securing dedicated personnel, and spaces."
