Yoon Visits Ulsan Traditional Market... "Will Ensure Ulsan's Economic Growth" (Comprehensive)

Visiting Ulsan Sinjeong Market with an Impromptu Speech
Encouraging Market Merchants and Purchasing Products
Four Visits to Traditional Markets in One Month

President Yoon Suk-yeol visited Ulsan Sinjeong Shopping Market on the 21st and stated, "We will ensure that many investments are made in Ulsan and that the Ulsan economy can grow more actively, thereby greatly helping your livelihoods."

After concluding the livelihood discussion held in Ulsan that afternoon, President Yoon made these remarks in an impromptu speech before entering Sinjeong Shopping Market, Ulsan's representative traditional market.

This visit to Sinjeong Shopping Market marks President Yoon's third time, following his visit as a presidential candidate in October 2021 and on the first anniversary of his presidential election last March.

President Yoon said, "Today in Ulsan, I promised plans for the city's development, including the lifting of the greenbelt," adding, "I am firmly convinced that many policies related to Ulsan's development are directly connected to your livelihoods."

He continued, "Although Ulsan's reputation had somewhat declined due to the long-term slump in the shipbuilding industry, I heard that Ulsan's population has increased again after 88 months and that the Ulsan economy is recovering," emphasizing, "Together with Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom of Ulsan, I will devote myself wholeheartedly to Ulsan's development."

Heading toward the market, President Yoon listened to various difficulties faced by local merchants, purchased products such as traditional snacks, and took photos with the merchants. A citizen at the market shouted to President Yoon, "Don't lose to the doctors."

According to Kim Soo-kyung, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, President Yoon told his aides to buy all the wild greens being sold by an elderly person on the street market so that the elder could finish selling and go home, saying, "It's cold, so please go inside quickly." When the elder hesitated to hold President Yoon's hand, saying their hands were cold, he held the elder's hand and said, "It's okay. Stay healthy."

President Yoon also promised a heavily pregnant woman, "The government will work hard to ensure you can give birth safely."

Sinjeong Shopping Market, established in 1970, is the largest traditional market in the Ulsan area, operating various stores including agricultural, livestock, and seafood products, clothing, and food. This year, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups selected Sinjeong Shopping Market as a cultural tourism market, loved by locals and tourists alike.

Since the recent livelihood discussions, President Yoon has been visiting nearby traditional markets as a way to gauge public sentiment.

Specifically, on the 25th of last month, immediately after the 6th livelihood discussion held at Uijeongbu City Hall on the topic of resolving transportation disparities, he visited Uijeongbu Jeil Market. On the 8th of this month, following the 10th livelihood discussion held at Layer 57, a complex space in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, related to policies for small and medium enterprises and small business owners, he visited Junggok Jeil Market in Gwangjin-gu. Additionally, after the 11th livelihood discussion held on the 13th of this month at Busan City Hall on the theme of the local era, he visited Dongnae Market in Busan.
