Six Democratic Party Pre-Candidates with Prosecutor Backgrounds Form 'Prosecution Privatization Prevention TF'
Preliminary candidates from the prosecution background of the Democratic Party of Korea for the 22nd National Assembly election have formed and begun activities of the ‘Prosecution Privatization Prevention Task Force (TF)’ to block the Yoon Seok-yeol administration’s privatization of the prosecution.
On the 21st, six candidates including Yang Bu-nam, preliminary candidate for Seo-gu (Eul), Gwangju Metropolitan City, and Park Gyun-taek, preliminary candidate for Gwangsan-gu (Gap), held a press conference at the National Assembly and announced the formation of the TF to prevent the Yoon Seok-yeol administration’s prosecution power privatization, which is routinely abused solely for the regime’s benefit.
They said, “The prosecution has fallen from being a representative of the public interest to a representative of the regime, and nowadays, people hesitate to say they are from the prosecution anywhere.”
They continued, “We have decided to unite our strength and take the lead in the struggle to stop illegal and unjust prosecution power exercises and to hold and punish investigative prosecutors who committed violations to the end,” adding, “We believe that this is the only way for former prosecutors who have served the state to correct the prosecution’s wrongdoings and apologize to the people.”
Going forward, they plan to ▲detect cases of abuse of prosecution power such as violations of political neutrality and biased appeals ▲respond to fabricated investigations by all means including filing complaints with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, submitting opinions to the courts, submitting requests to the Korean Bar Association to refuse lawyer registration, and proposing impeachment motions ▲engage in legislative initiatives to prevent prosecution privatization and normalize the prosecution, and establish legal and institutional countermeasures against the prosecutor dictatorship regime.
Preliminary candidate Park Gyun-taek pointed out, “The prosecution often hides unfavorable evidence and deliberately omits facts favorable to the defendant to eliminate political opponents, and does not hesitate to conduct fabricated investigations,” citing the ongoing trial of the so-called Lee Jae-myung representative’s ‘perjury coaching’ case as a representative example.
Preliminary candidate Yang Bu-nam also said, “Especially in investigations against the previous Moon Jae-in administration, the prosecution completely lost neutrality and fairness.”
