Government Shares Regional Tourism Strategies... Establishes Cooperation System

Regional Tourism Revitalization Council Meeting by Zone

On the 21st, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold a regional tourism revitalization council meeting at the National Sejong Library conference room. This is a follow-up measure to the 'Improvement of Public-Private Cooperation (Governance) in Regional Tourism' announced at the National Tourism Strategy Meeting in December last year. About 800 stakeholders, including local governments from five regions centered around regional airports (Chungcheong, Gangwon, Honam, Gyeongbuk, and Dongnam), regional tourism organizations, and industry representatives, will gather to share regional tourism revitalization strategies and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation systems.

Jang Mi-ran, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, "It is meaningful to create a platform where various stakeholders in regional tourism can come together and cooperate continuously and systematically," adding, "We will help each region discover tourism content linked to their unique attractions and support revitalizing tourism throughout the regions."

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will intensify the regional tourism councils based on this first joint meeting. Local governments, regional tourism corporations, local airports, and regional tourism businesses?organizations rooted in the region that know it best?will regularly meet at least once a quarter to discover representative tourism products and support cooperation.

A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official explained, "Based on consultations conducted at the expanded regional level rather than small-scale local discussions, we plan to develop comprehensively linked tourism content, cooperate on tourism services, and enhance promotional effects." The official added, "The tourism industry can contribute to solving difficulties faced by regions, such as declining vitality due to population decrease, by revitalizing local consumption, creating jobs, and even enjoying export effects through attracting foreign visitors."
