Gyeonggi Province will utilize drones to conduct safety inspections of apartment complexes during the thawing season.
On the 21st, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will carry out a "Thawing Season Apartment Construction Site Safety Inspection" targeting 10 complexes at construction sites in five areas?Osan, Icheon, Anseong, Hwaseong, and Pyeongtaek?by the 28th of this month.
Gyeonggi Province is conducting safety inspections at construction sites during the thawing season using drones.
This inspection will be conducted together with private experts in the fields of civil engineering (soil), architecture, and construction safety.
The main inspection items by field include ▲checking vulnerable areas for thawing season safety accidents such as boundary slopes and underground excavation ▲inspecting the installation status and damage of temporary structures such as formwork and scaffolding ▲and measures to prevent construction machinery overturning due to ground subsidence.
Notably, this is the first time that unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) will be used for local government apartment safety inspections.
For thorough safety inspections, drones will be deployed to sites where visual inspection by private experts is difficult, such as retaining walls, stone walls, and underground earth retaining structures, which are vulnerable during the thawing season.
In addition to the sites inspected by Gyeonggi Province, city and county governments will conduct their own inspections. Gyeonggi Province plans to recommend quality inspection and technical advisory committee members if private experts are needed.
Urgent or minor issues found during the inspection will be addressed immediately on-site, and matters requiring follow-up such as repairs and reinforcements will be reported to the respective city or county to be completed within a few days and continuously managed.
Park Jong-geun, head of the Apartment Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "This thawing season safety inspection will utilize drones to meticulously inspect sites that are difficult to check with the naked eye, and we will do our best to ensure thorough inspections by having private experts verify whether corrective actions have been completed after the inspection."
