'10,000-Won Range Rockfish Sashimi' Appears Amid High Inflation... Lotte Mart Offers Half-Price Discount

Domestic Farmed Rockfish Overshadowed by Imported Live Fish
'Korea Fisheries Expo' Event Also Held Until the 28th

Lotte Mart announced on the 21st that starting from the 22nd, it will hold a discount event at all stores offering a plate of rockfish at half price, 19,920 KRW. This event is exclusive to L.Point members. Payment must be made with the event cards (Lotte or Shinhan).

Looking at the major live fish imports (yellowtail, red sea bream) in January this year, they increased by 50% compared to the previous year. On the other hand, consumption of domestically farmed fish has generally decreased, and the shipment volume of rockfish is expected to continue declining since February this year.

In response, Lotte Mart's merchandise planner (MD) visited a farm in the southern coast in January to visually inspect the condition of the rockfish and purchased 10 tons of raw rockfish in bulk. They were able to bring in the fish at about 30% cheaper than the market price, allowing them to lower the selling price to half. Lotte Mart selected only large raw rockfish weighing over 800g, which is 60% larger than the previously used 500g fish, to provide rockfish sashimi with a firm and chewy texture.

Along with this, Lotte Mart is also holding the 'Korea Seafood Grand Sale' until the 28th. For example, ‘Seongsanpo Eoga Hairtail (thawed/32 pieces)’, commonly used for braising or grilling, has been discounted by about 20%, and with an additional 25% discount using the event card, it can be purchased for 2,994 KRW per fish. The ‘Prepared Squid (distant water catch, thawed, 4 pieces)’, which is cleaned and convenient for cooking, is offered at 9,920 KRW after a 20% discount.
