Bae Jong-cheon, Former Chairman of Changwon City Council, Announces Independent Candidacy

Former Chairman Bae Jong-cheon of the Changwon City Council in Gyeongnam announced his independent candidacy for the 22nd National Assembly election.

On the 20th, Bae held a press conference at the Changwon City Hall press room and stated, "I will run as an independent candidate in the Changwon Seongsan electoral district."

He said, "I challenged the 22nd general election with the pride of having worked in local politics and party activities for over 20 years, trusting the promise of Han Dong-hoon of the People Power Party to break past practices and implement a systemized nomination."

He added, "After seeing the single nomination result the day before, I thought nothing had changed, so I will leave it to the evaluation of the Seongsan residents, leaving the People Power Party."

Former Chairman Bae emphasized, "In a recent public broadcast opinion poll, I was not behind other candidates and was actually the most competitive," and "I have lived in Seongsan for 35 years, served three terms as a city council member, and twice as chairman."

"I believe in my competitiveness and intend to follow my path with conviction," he added, "I will move forward to the end with the goal of winning."

Bae, who was a contender for the People Power Party nomination in Changwon City's Seongsan district, was not nominated after the nomination committee selected Assemblyman Kang Ki-yoon as the single candidate on the 20th.

He plans to submit his resignation from the People Power Party on the 21st.
