Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon announced the adoption news of ‘Dongju,’ a 3-week-old dog rescued last September from an illegal breeding farm in Hwaseong.
On the 20th, Governor Kim posted on his social media, "I heard some good news," and shared, "Dongju, who was rescued from an illegal breeding farm last September and had been staying at Banryeomaru, has found a new family."
He explained, "(Dongju) is a name combining ‘Dong’ from my name and ‘Ju’ from when he was 3 weeks old."
Governor Kim continued, "Among the 1,410 dogs rescued at that time, 687 came to Banryeomaru, and 456 of them found new families within five months," expressing gratitude by saying, "Thank you to all the adopters who became lifelong families."
He added, "There are still about 230 rescued dogs waiting for adoption at Banryeomaru," and requested, "We ask the residents to show interest so they can soon meet new families."
Earlier, in September last year, under Governor Kim Dong-yeon’s urgent directive, some of the approximately 1,400 dogs rescued from a breeding farm located in Paltan-myeon, Hwaseong City, were transferred to Banryeomaru and the Helper Dog Sharing Center for protection.
Banryeomaru in Gyeonggi Province is a pet complex cultural space directly operated by the province, officially opened on November 11 last year. It is located on a 95,790㎡ site and includes one cultural center building, three shelter buildings, and one management building. It provides services such as abandoned animal protection and adoption, operation of an animal hospital, life respect education, and professional pet care programs including grooming and training.
Starting this year, Gyeonggi Province will also support the pet industry by providing related university field training, industry-academia recruitment fairs, and operating pet culture festivals.
