Prosecutors Appeal 2-Year Sentence for Park Suhong's Older Brother in Agency Fund Embezzlement Case

Park Su-hong (53), a broadcaster, and his older brother Park Jin-hong (55), who was sentenced to prison for embezzling tens of billions of won from Park's personal funds and the agency's funds, have both filed appeals against the verdict, with the prosecution also submitting an appeal.

On the 20th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office announced that it had filed an appeal against the first trial verdict, which sentenced Park to two years in prison for embezzlement under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, and acquitted Park's wife, Lee Mo (53).

The prosecution stated, "There is clear evidence that the defendants arbitrarily used the funds for personal gain, and it is sufficiently recognized that the defendants conspired," adding, "The sentence given to Park is considered excessively light given the nature of the crime."

Park was prosecuted on charges of embezzling company and personal funds over ten years while managing Park Su-hong's management from 2011. Although the initial indictment stated the embezzled amount as 6.17 billion won, the prosecution, excluding overlapping items, considered that Park embezzled a total of about 4.8 billion won. The first trial court recognized the embezzlement amount as approximately 2 billion won.

Earlier, Park filed an appeal with the Seoul Western District Court on the 19th, dissatisfied with the first trial verdict.
