‘Challenge, Experience, and Practice: The Spread of Do-ing Education Across Dongmyung University’

Sharing Various Achievements Including the Outcome Dissemination Forum on 'Breaking Down Barriers Between Disciplines'

Do-ing (Challenge·Experience·Practice) education at Dongmyung University is continuously spreading throughout the campus.

‘Challenge, Experience, and Practice: The Spread of Do-ing Education Across Dongmyung University’ Dongmyeong University Do-ing Education Innovation Center Forum.

The Do-ing Education Innovation Center at Dongmyung University (Director Kim Min-jeong) held the 2023 Do-ing Education Innovation Center Performance Expansion Forum on the 15th.


It was a venue for sharing and expanding various achievements aimed at nurturing future-oriented talents, including Do-ing education created by students themselves and education that breaks down the ‘walls’ between academic disciplines.


The event opened energetically with a performance video of the song “Neoul,” composed by Kim Woo-joo, a student in the Entertainment Arts Department of the Do-ing College who participated in the Do-ing semester system and extracurricular activities (supervising professor Lee Woo-young), and a ukulele and flute ensemble by the Neoulrim team (Heo Ju-young and three others) from the Department of Welfare Management in the College of Future Convergence.


There were reports on the achievements of the Do-ing semester system and extracurricular activities (professor in charge Han Sang-jun), introductions of exhibited student works and posters, and presentations of outstanding students’ achievements (Visual Design student Jo Se-hee, Beauty Care student Jo So-ri). Student Jo Se-hee attracted great attention by sharing a success story that led to a startup (Iscape Co., Ltd.) through a project using generative AI in the Do-ing semester program.


At the extracurricular activity essay contest (professor in charge Song Sook-kyung), awards and prize money of 300,000 KRW were presented to two top students (Kim Kyung-min from the Department of Social Welfare and Seo Min-woo from the Department of Food and Nutrition), who also gave acceptance speeches. The extracurricular activity videos produced by the award-winning students will be released on YouTube.


Major projects of the Do-ing Education Innovation Center included the course certification system (invited professor Han Sang-jun) and case presentations by participating faculty (Visual Design professor Kim Jung-eun), reports on the core competencies of Dongmyung members and competency-based modular curricula across horizontal and vertical dimensions (invited professor Kim Hyun-ji), and case presentations on modular curricula (Professor Park Sung-joo from the Department of Marine Mobility).


The event concluded with a report on the CO-UP program linking curricular and extracurricular activities (invited professor Song Sook-kyung) and a case presentation (Fashion Design professor Lee Young-sook).


President Jeon Ho-hwan emphasized that in Do-ing education, the willingness to try (Doing) without fear of failure is important, and that students’ attempts (Doing) will be expanded as an educational value throughout the university.


Director Kim Min-jeong stated that they will strive to provide education that cultivates thinking skills and practical abilities through convergence with various fields based on a healthy body.


Dongmyung University is spreading Do-ing education across all departments, including establishing the Do-ing College in 2022 to nurture talents who Do-ing the fundamental values of reading classics, speech, writing, and sports.
