Ministry of Health and Welfare: "55% of Residents at 100 Training Hospitals Submitted Resignations... 25% Left Their Workplaces"

Ministry of Health and Welfare Issues 'Work Commencement Orders' to 728 Residents

On the 20th, the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced that as of 11 PM on the 19th, a total of 6,415 residents, accounting for 55% of the total residents affiliated with 100 major training hospitals, have submitted their resignation letters.


About 1,630 of those who submitted resignation letters, approximately 25%, have abandoned their workplaces.


Each hospital has not accepted the resignation letters submitted by these residents.

As a result of the Ministry's inspection of 10 training hospitals, 1,091 residents had submitted resignation letters (as of 10 PM on the 19th). Among them, it was confirmed that 757 did not report to work.


The Ministry issued work commencement orders to 728 residents, excluding 29 who had already been ordered to start work.


The Ministry is also receiving reports of damages caused to the public due to the doctors' collective action through the "Physician Collective Action Damage Report and Support Center."


As of 6 PM on the 19th, a total of 34 damage cases have been reported, including 25 surgery cancellations, 4 appointment cancellations, 3 refusals of medical treatment, and 2 delays in hospitalization.
