Backlash After National Team 'Conflict Rumors' Spread
Fabien, a French broadcaster who claims to be an ardent fan of Lee Kang-in (23, Paris Saint-Germain), who was rumored to have a conflict with Son Heung-min, captain of the South Korean national team during the 2023 Qatar Asian Cup semifinals, recently shared an update after facing a 'backlash' from some netizens.
On the 19th, Fabien posted on his Instagram account, "Many people told me to 'go back to your country,' so I came back," adding, "This Qatar-France schedule was eventful, but I made new friends and wrapped it up well in my own way."
He also added, "Isn't life about ups and downs and things not going as planned?" The photo he posted along with the message showed the Korean flag and the Qatari flag with the phrase "Welcome to Korea" written between them.
Previously, Fabien was caught in the crossfire of the national team conflict rumors because he was known as a devoted fan of Lee Kang-in. After foreign media reported on the 6th that there was a dispute between Son Heung-min and Lee Kang-in, some netizens began criticizing him.
Fabien, a Frenchman, launched the YouTube channel "Fabien Saint-Germain" last June after Lee Kang-in joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), producing numerous contents related to Lee Kang-in and PSG. The channel has surpassed 150,000 subscribers and was reportedly popular among football fans.
After the Asian Cup, he attracted attention by uploading an analysis video titled "South Korea's Failure, What Went Wrong? Honest Thoughts from a Qatari and a Frenchman."
The comments on his video sparked heated debates among netizens. Some reacted with comments like "Don't upload videos about Lee Kang-in anymore," and "Don't support players who ruin team morale," while others defended him with remarks such as "What wrong has Fabien done?" and "Don't be hurt by malicious comments."
