Eunpyeong-gu, National and Seoul-type Emergency Welfare Support to Help Vulnerable Groups

Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced on the 20th that it will provide national and Seoul-type ‘Emergency Welfare Support’ to help vulnerable groups facing economic difficulties due to crisis situations.

‘Emergency Welfare Support’ is a system that quickly provides living expenses, medical expenses, housing costs, education expenses, etc., to low-income households who have difficulty maintaining their livelihood due to sudden crises such as unemployment, business closure, severe illness, injury, natural disasters, or crime victimization, helping them escape from the crisis.

This year, the emergency living expenses for a single-person household increased by 89,800 KRW from last year’s 623,300 KRW per month to 713,100 KRW per month, an increase of about 14% compared to the previous year.

The criteria for national-type emergency welfare support are ▲ 75% or less of the median income (1-person household in a metropolitan city: 1.67 million KRW, 4-person household income: 4.29 million KRW) ▲ property of 241 million KRW or less ▲ financial assets of 11.72 million KRW or less for a 4-person household.

The criteria for Seoul-type emergency welfare support are ▲ 100% or less of the median income (1-person household in a metropolitan city: 2.22 million KRW, 4-person household income: 5.72 million KRW) ▲ property of 409 million KRW or less ▲ financial assets of 10 million KRW or less. The housing property deduction amount for both national and Seoul types is 69 million KRW.

Applications for national-type emergency welfare support can be made at the local community service center of the applicant’s address, and medical expenses can be applied for at the district office’s Welfare Policy Division. If the eligibility requirements are met and the applicant is selected as a support recipient, they can receive customized emergency support such as 1.83 million KRW for living expenses, 3 million KRW for medical expenses, and 660,000 KRW for housing costs based on a 4-person household.

Applications for Seoul-type emergency welfare support can be made at the local community service center of the applicant’s address. After consultation with a welfare planner, support recipients are selected through internal case meetings within the community center. Seoul-type support recipients can receive living expenses of 1.83 million KRW for a 4-person household, up to 1 million KRW for medical expenses, and up to 1 million KRW for housing costs.

Anyone who discovers an emergency support candidate can request support at the local community service center, Eunpyeong-gu Welfare Policy Division, or Eunpyeong Welfare Hotline. Reports can also be made to the 24-hour Health and Welfare Counseling Center (129).

An official from Eunpyeong-gu said, “We hope that households facing economic crises due to sudden unemployment and other difficulties will receive help through strengthened emergency welfare support and lead a stable life.”
