Signing of Letter of Intent for Friendly Exchange with Sevilla
Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, will visit Spain to attend the 'Mobile World Congress (Mobile World Congress·MWC) 2024,' one of the world's top three information technology (IT) exhibitions.
Yongin City announced on the 19th that the mayor will visit Spain for ten days from the 20th to the 29th with a six-member city delegation to grasp the latest trends in advanced industries and explore international exchange and cooperation plans with major cities such as Seville through 'MWC 2024' held in Barcelona. During the visit, the mayor plans to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on mutual cooperation related to the convention and MICE industries with the city of Bilbao and NEBEXT, a convention company in Barcelona.
The mayor will officially begin his schedule on the 21st (local time) by attending 'HIP (Hospitality Innovation Planet),' the largest Horeca (Hotel, Restaurant, Cafe) industry exhibition of the generation, held at the IFEMA Convention Center in Madrid.
He will then visit the KOTRA Madrid Trade Center and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Spain to discuss local market entry for Yongin companies and exchange plans with Spanish local governments.
On the 22nd, the mayor will visit Seville City and sign a letter of intent for exchange to promote friendship between the two cities with Seville Mayor Jos? Luis Sanz. Since October last year, the city has been conducting preliminary negotiations, including appointing an international honorary advisor, to promote exchanges with Seville, which has a developed renewable energy sector.
On the 23rd, the mayor plans to visit Bilbao to hold a meeting with Bilbao city officials and review cases in the field of urban regeneration. Bilbao, once on the path of decline due to the steel industry's downturn, revived its local economy by attracting and establishing a branch of the Guggenheim Museum, becoming a representative successful case of urban regeneration.
On the 27th, the mayor will move to Barcelona to attend 'MWC 2024' and visit the Yongin Pavilion and the Integrated Korea Pavilion to encourage local company representatives participating in the exhibition. He also plans to meet with representatives from Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, who are developing the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster in Wonsam-myeon and the Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex in Idong and Namsa-eup, to explore global semiconductor cooperation plans.
On the 28th, he will visit Activa, an economic development agency under Barcelona City, and IMI (Municipal Institute of Information Technology) to inspect smart city policies and technologies.
Additionally, he will visit the headquarters of NEBEXT, Spain's largest B2B exhibition planning company, to discuss directions for the convention and MICE industries promoted by Yongin City and sign an MOU for mutual cooperation.
The mayor said, "Through the visit to Spain, I will grasp the international trends in advanced industries and technologies to find ways to enhance the competitiveness of local companies. At the same time, I will lay the foundation for exchange and cooperation with Spanish cities that have extensive experience in urban regeneration, culture, and tourism."
