OpenAI, Developer of 'ChatGPT', Valued at Minimum 106 Trillion Won
China's ByteDance, U.S. SpaceX Followed as "Top 3 Global Tech Startups"
The value of OpenAI, the US company that developed the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT, has been estimated at a minimum of $80 billion (106.84 trillion KRW), according to the US daily The New York Times (NYT) on the 16th (local time). Bloomberg reported that OpenAI's corporate value was assessed at an even higher $86 billion (114.853 trillion KRW). This figure has increased by at least threefold in about 10 months.
This valuation was confirmed during the corporate valuation for OpenAI's stock tender offer led by the venture capital firm Strive Capital.
According to market research firm CB Insights, OpenAI is the third most valuable technology startup in the world, following China's ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, and the US company SpaceX.
This tender offer aims to allow OpenAI employees to liquidate their equity holdings. OpenAI originally planned to sell shares last year, but the plan was postponed after CEO Sam Altman was abruptly dismissed in November of the same year due to leadership issues. However, he returned as CEO after five days, enabling the share sale to proceed again.
