Yeongyang-gun Distributes Fire Blight Control Agents to Apple and Pear Orchards

The Agricultural Technology Center of Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk, will distribute the fourth round of fire blight control agents to apple and pear farmers in the area to prevent the introduction and enable preemptive control of fire blight.

The control agents will be directly supplied to farms through pesticide suppliers by mid-March. In addition to the four types of control agents, leaflets outlining the control system will be distributed to help farmers refer to the appropriate timing for pesticide application.

Farmers must refer to the leaflets to apply control measures at the proper time and keep the control confirmation certificate and used pesticide bags (pesticide bottles) for one year to receive compensation without reduction in case of fire blight outbreak.

Fire blight is a quarantine pest designated under the Plant Quarantine Act, mainly occurring in apples and pears. It spreads rapidly and has no effective treatment agents, so an outbreak can cause significant damage not only to the affected farm but also to neighboring farms.

County Governor O Do-chang stated, “Yeongyang-gun is a fire blight-free area, and we are making every effort to block fire blight through timely control, pre-inspection, and on-site guidance.” He added, “Since there is no treatment agent for fire blight, we hope farmers will apply the distributed agents at the right time to achieve effective control.”
