The Hongseong-Yesan district in Chungnam, where conflicts arose during the nomination process, is expected to hold a primary election. Hong Moon-pyo, a People Power Party lawmaker, engaged in a dispute over the "presidential watch" with Kang Seung-gyu, former Senior Secretary for Civil Society at the Presidential Office, who applied for nomination in the district. The day before, after completing the nomination interview, Representative Hong said, "(The interviewers) said they gave away 10,000 watches as souvenirs, so I asked if they gave one to all 10,000 people." On the other hand, former Secretary Kang rebutted, saying, "Representative Hong mentioned the watch, but the Civil Society Secretary's Office is a channel for communication with citizens," adding, "The presidential watch was prepared for visits to the Presidential Office or meetings. It is normal work of the Civil Society Secretary's Office."
Meanwhile, Jang Dong-hyeok, Secretary-General of the People Power Party, firmly stated that it is impossible to have a nomination process that satisfies everyone amid some noise during the nominations. Secretary-General Jang said, "There will be some noise within the party, but what matters more is how the public evaluates it."
