TK New Airport Railroad Selected as a Preliminary Feasibility Study Project... Daegu∼TK New Airport∼Uiseong

The Daegu·Gyeongbuk New Airport Railroad was selected as a preliminary feasibility study application project by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Investment Review Committee on the 15th.

This is the first follow-up measure promoted as part of the 'Introduction of Metropolitan Express Rail in Local Areas' announced at the presidential public discussion on livelihood held in January. Once the New Airport Railroad is confirmed as a feasibility study target project by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, it will enter the essential preliminary feasibility study process for railway construction.

The TK New Airport Railroad project was jointly proposed by Daegu City and Gyeongsangbuk-do in 2019, newly reflected in the 4th National Railroad Network Construction Plan in July 2021, and selected as one of five leading projects to revitalize non-capital metropolitan railroads.

Since November 2021, the Korea Rail Network Authority has been conducting a preliminary feasibility study, and reflecting the demand for the TK New Airport, it was applied as a preliminary feasibility study target project this time. Subsequently, the project will proceed through the process of final selection as a target project by the Ministry of Economy and Finance's Financial Project Evaluation Committee and conducting the preliminary feasibility study.

The New Airport Railroad is expected to deploy express trains at the level of the metropolitan area express railroad (GTX), and aims to be completed in time for the opening of the new airport. Once the TK New Airport Railroad is opened, a transportation network allowing access to the TK New Airport in the shortest time at a maximum speed of 180 km/h will be established, greatly contributing to the activation of the new airport.

Additionally, it will be connected to the Dalbit Railroad (Daegu~Gwangju), Gyeongbu Line, and Jungang Line, becoming a core project of Daegu's rise that leads the establishment of the southern economic zone and regional economic development.

Kim Daeyoung, Director of Transportation at Daegu City, said, “The New Airport Railroad is a core railway network construction project for the TK New Airport looking ahead to Daegu’s next 50 years,” and added, “We will work closely with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Economy and Finance to ensure that the New Airport Railroad is completed in time for the airport opening.”
