On the 15th, LG Uplus announced that it had completed the verification of next-generation software platform technology in collaboration with telecommunications equipment manufacturer Ericsson LG. LG Uplus plans to lead the creation of the 5G ecosystem by utilizing this technology.
Through this verification, LG Uplus confirmed that it can provide data necessary for 5G services such as network, authentication information, and location information in the form of international standard APIs. An API refers to a function that converts various data held by a telecommunications company, such as location information, subscriber information, and current status, into a form that can be provided to partner companies. Small and medium-sized developers lacking core technical capabilities can use data provided in API form to develop innovative 5G services and create new business areas.
In the platform verification, LG Uplus completed demonstrations utilizing the API-based software platform for ▲public disaster control ▲remote driving cars ▲VR/AR services, and plans to conduct various demonstrations by the end of the year.
For example, in the event of a disaster, by using the location information API to display a high-definition control screen on a drone via the 5G network, it is possible to respond quickly to real-time evacuation and rescue of people. Subsequently, by using the subscriber information API, a remote driving function can move the vehicle to where the user is located and provide a service to remotely park the vehicle after use.
Earlier, LG Uplus succeeded in demonstrating a remote autonomous parking service based on the 3GPP standard of the mobile communication standardization technology cooperation organization in June last year. In addition, with this demonstration of the open API-based 5G network platform solution, LG Uplus plans to create an ecosystem that utilizes 5G network services.
Hong Seok-won, Executive Director of Technology at Ericsson LG CSS, said, "Mobile network open APIs using standardized APIs can support the development of 5G services in various fields," adding, "We will contribute to increasing the utilization of telecommunications operators' 5G networks and expanding the 5G service ecosystem through proactive technology development."
