Naver Takes Action Against Fraud... Automatic Purchase Confirmation Before Delivery Not Allowed

Naver has strengthened monitoring and implemented measures to prevent cases where automatic purchase confirmation occurs before product delivery, causing consumer harm.

According to the related industry on the 15th, Naver will enforce a sanction policy starting from the 20th of next month that indefinitely extends automatic purchase confirmation if delivery information is missing or the delivery date and time appear abnormal.

Currently, for domestically shipped products, purchase is automatically confirmed and payment is deposited to the seller 28 days after shipment, and for internationally shipped products, 45 days after shipment, even if the buyer does not confirm the purchase. However, if subject to indefinite extension, procedures such as automatic purchase confirmation and payment deposit will no longer proceed. This is to prevent cases where products are not shipped but the delivery period is extended to trigger automatic purchase confirmation and collect sales proceeds.

The indefinite extension sanction applies when there is no delivery tracking information generated for waybills that should have delivery tracking information, such as courier, registered mail, parcels, or logistics platform Goodsflow waybill printing, up to 5 days before the scheduled automatic purchase confirmation date. Additionally, it applies when the courier company's collection date or delivery completion date in the delivery tracking information is earlier than the order date and time.

In such cases, if the buyer does not directly confirm the purchase, the sales payment will not be deposited. Sellers are also unable to request purchase confirmation from buyers.

If the seller ships the product late and completes delivery, the scheduled automatic purchase confirmation date will be recalculated based on the updated valid waybill. However, if a problem is detected under the system monitoring policy 5 days before the scheduled automatic purchase confirmation date, the indefinite extension sanction may be reapplied.
