Jungnang-gu Enhances 'Environmental Sensitivity' for 4-5 Year Old Children

Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) Environmental Education Center is operating group environmental education programs for young children.

The group program for young children is designed to help kids learn about climate change issues and the local natural environment more easily and enjoyably through various experiences. It is operated annually for local daycare centers and kindergartens.

The 2024 first half group program for young children includes three programs: ▲Gather! Jungnang-gu Animal Friends ▲Little Agents on a Mission!! -Marine Animals Edition, Insects Edition-.

First, "Gather! Jungnang-gu Animal Friends" is an ecological program where children observe the neighborhood forest created at the Environmental Education Center, engage in art activities such as coloring, and learn about the types and characteristics of animals living in Jungnang-gu. This program was selected as the "2023 2nd Excellent Environmental Education Program" by the Ministry of Environment last year, verifying its eco-friendliness, excellence, and safety.

"Little Agents on a Mission!!" Marine Animals Edition and Insects Edition use related books to teach about marine waste, endangered animals, the life cycle of insects, and their relationship with climate change. In the Marine Animals Edition, children can also enjoy a media experience removing marine waste and rescuing creatures in the immersive media experience zone on the center’s basement first floor.

The programs run every Tuesday and Thursday from March 12 to July 18 and are targeted at 4- to 5-year-old children attending daycare centers and kindergartens in Jungnang-gu. Applications can be made on a first-come, first-served basis from the 20th to the 29th until 5 p.m. via the Jungnang-gu Environmental Education Center website, with class units of at least 15 and up to 22 children.

Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi said, “We have prepared group programs for young children so they can learn about the importance of climate change and environmental protection in a fun and interesting way,” adding, “We will continue to make efforts to develop environmental education programs tailored to young children’s perspectives.”
