On the 14th, when daytime temperatures soared past 10 degrees Celsius, dogs played happily and their owners enjoyed a relaxed and joyful time at the dog park along Jungnangcheon in Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung).

The 'Large Dog Dog Park,' established by the district on the 24th of last month, is located next to the existing dog park under the Jang-an Bridge pier on Jungnangcheon (around 316-15 Jang-an-dong).

The existing dog park, which opened in 2021, had become cramped due to increased users, and frequent conflicts occurred because large dogs and small to medium-sized dogs shared the same space.

In response, the district promoted the 'Expansion of Dog Parks' last year, resulting in separate areas for large dogs and small to medium-sized dogs.

The newly created park features shade tents and benches where owners can rest, as well as a suspension bridge and weave poles for dogs to play and train. Dogs taller than 40 cm at the withers are classified as large dogs, while those below are considered small to medium-sized dogs to avoid confusion in usage.

The dog parks are open for use at all times. Owners must enter with their dogs, and children under 13 must be accompanied by a guardian. Dangerous dogs or those with illnesses that may harm others are not allowed to enter.

Additionally, owners are required to bring waste bags and clean up after their pets, adhering to 'petiquette' rules necessary when raising companion animals.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “With the expansion of the dog parks, dog owners can now enjoy safer and freer time with their pets,” and added, “We ask everyone to use the facilities considerately so that all can have a pleasant and happy time with their dogs.”
