Nowon District Council's New Characters Are 'Nowli and Somang'


The Nowon District Council of Seoul (Chairman Kim Junsung) announced on the 14th that it has created and unveiled promotional characters, ‘Nowooli and Somangi,’ which embody the identity and story of the Nowon District Council, to be used for legislative promotion and communication.


The Nowon District Council held the ‘Seoul Special City Nowon District Council Character Contest,’ offering a prize of 1 million KRW for the winning entry. Among 57 excellent submissions received nationwide, the final winner was selected this month after a first round of internal screening and a second round of expert evaluation.


A representative from the Public Relations Team of the Council Secretariat stated, “We have seen critical articles about public institutions spending tens of millions of KRW to create promotional characters but failing to utilize them properly. The Nowon District Council plans to select good works at low cost and make the most of them for council promotion.”


Kim Junsung, Chairman of the Nowon District Council, said, “As the selected characters signify, we will listen carefully to the opinions of Nowon residents (‘Nowooli’ meaning) and communicate to create a council that brings hope and happiness (‘Somangi’ meaning). We hope that through the Nowon District Council characters, people from the younger generation to the elderly will enjoyably understand various news about the council and that it will expand into a shared space for communication.”


The selected promotional characters will be used in the future for visitor souvenirs, promotional booklets, newsletters, the website, SNS, video production, and various council events.
