Major Maintenance Scheduled for 5 Days from the 19th to the 23rd
The Gyeongnam Sacheon City Facilities Management Corporation announced on the 14th that the Sacheon Sea Cable Car will be temporarily closed for five days from the 19th to the 23rd for the "2024 First Half Major Maintenance."
During the major maintenance period, the Sacheon Sea Cable Car will conduct safety inspections of the Daebang, Choyang, and Gaksan stations, as well as non-destructive testing (NDT), and comprehensive safety checks on brakes and towers.
Additionally, work to enhance stability and provide a comfortable environment will be carried out, including adjusting the travel distance of the tension device trolley on the wire rope, replacing the operating oil, and washing the interior and exterior of the cabins.
The Sacheon Sea Cable Car is a bi-cable automatic circulation system designed to withstand storm-level winds of up to 22 meters per second. Wind direction and speed measuring instruments have been additionally installed on all towers to safely respond to sudden gusts and strong winds during adverse weather conditions.
Notably, it is the only cable car in Korea equipped with a maritime rescue system. In the worst emergency situations, a special rescue vehicle equipped with its own engine can directly approach the cabin to safely evacuate passengers, attracting significant attention.
Meanwhile, the Sacheon City Facilities Management Corporation conducts joint rescue drills annually with the Coast Guard and Fire Department to ensure prompt response to emergencies and smooth operation of the maritime rescue system.
Han Jae-cheon, the director, stated, "We will carry out safety inspections and major maintenance more thoroughly to maintain the reputation of the Sacheon Sea Cable Car as the safest in the world," adding, "The cable car is scheduled to resume normal operation from the 24th after the maintenance period, so we hope there will be no inconvenience in using the cable car."
