60% of Net Outflow is Young Adults
Jobs are the Cause
Last year, more than 11,000 people migrated from Busan to the Seoul metropolitan area. Among those who left Busan, 6 out of 10 were young adults, and most were found to be seeking employment.
According to the '2023 Southeastern Region Population Movement Statistics' released by the Southeast Regional Statistics Office on the 11th, 364,271 people moved into Busan last year, while 375,703 people moved out, resulting in a net outflow of 11,432 people.
Of the net outflow population, the vast majority, 11,226 people, moved to the Seoul metropolitan area.
By age group, the net outflow of young adults in their 20s and 30s accounted for 59.5% of the total, while those in their 50s and 60s or older accounted for 14.2% and 25.4%, respectively.
The districts in Busan with the highest net outflow rates were Geumjeong-gu at 2.0% (4,379 people), Jung-gu at 1.8% (710 people), and Buk-gu at 1.6% (4,464 people), in that order.
The main reason for the net outflow was employment, with 9,939 people accounting for 86.9% of the total, followed by family reasons with 2,424 people, housing with 1,955 people, and natural environment with 1,275 people.
