As the semiconductor market improves, the price of memory semiconductors continues to rise.
According to market research firm DRAMeXchange on the 10th, the spot price of the general-purpose DRAM product 'DDR4 8 Gigabit (Gb) 2666' was recorded at $1.937 as of the 8th.
It has risen about 10% since the beginning of this year. Compared to the yearly low of $1.448 recorded on September 4 last year, it has increased by 33.8% in just over five months.
Due to sluggish front-end IT demand caused by the global economic downturn, DRAM spot prices had been on a downward trend since February 2022.
However, with the full-scale effects of production cuts by suppliers such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, along with inventory depletion, prices have been rebounding since early September last year.
DRAM spot prices are transaction prices temporarily conducted through dealers. Typically, they converge to fixed transaction prices, which are inter-company trading prices occurring 4 to 6 months later, serving as a leading market indicator.
DRAM fixed transaction prices also rose for four consecutive months from October last year to January this year. Since major semiconductor companies like Samsung and SK Hynix trade products at fixed prices, fixed prices are also important.
The average fixed transaction price in January for the 'DDR4 8Gb' DRAM product, as compiled by DRAMeXchange, was $1.8, up 9.09% from the previous month.
