Shin Jeong-hoon vs Son Geum-ju Third Match Draws Attention

People Power's Kim Jong-woon & Progressive Party's Ahn Ju-yong Also Early Candidates
The Jeonnam Naju-si and Hwasun-gun electoral district features a third rematch between Representative Shin Jeong-hoon, who is seeking a third term, and former Representative Son Geum-ju, who is determined to avenge his previous defeat. Additionally, former Hwasun County Governor Koo Choong-gon, the only candidate with ties to Hwasun, has joined the race, drawing attention to the regional dynamics.

Representative Shin Jeong-hoon first entered the National Assembly through a 2014 by-election but was defeated in the 2016 20th general election by Son Geum-ju, who ran under the People’s Party amid a "green wave." He reclaimed his seat in the 2020 21st general election. Recently, after entering the 22nd National Assembly, he announced his decision not to run in the upcoming 23rd general election, intending to pave the way for capable juniors.
Former Representative Son Geum-ju, who entered the National Assembly in the 20th general election, is striving to regain his seat lost in the 21st. He graduated from Seoul National University Graduate School of Law, passed the 40th Judicial Examination, served as a judge at the Seoul Administrative Court, and was a member of the 20th National Assembly. He is currently working as a lawyer.
Former Hwasun County Governor Koo Choong-gon is also actively courting public support. He served as the 46th and 47th governor of Hwasun County and was president of Jeonnam Provincial College. Notably, he emphasizes that he is the only candidate whose hometown is Hwasun.
Former Senior Administrative Officer of the Blue House National Situation Room, Choi Yong-seon, registered early as a preliminary candidate and continues his activities in the region. He attracted attention by placing second with 32% in the Democratic Party primary for Naju mayor in the last local election. His strong organizational skills are considered a major strength.
From the People Power Party, former Naju City Council Chairman Kim Jong-woon has entered the race. Former Chairman Kim emphasized his experience in local politics and expressed his determination to become a powerful ruling party lawmaker who will secure a budget windfall for the region.
From the Progressive Party, former Jeonnam Provincial Assembly member Ahn Ju-yong has completed preliminary candidate registration and is focusing on grassroots campaigning.
