Sharing Updates on Changes in Foreign Policy Direction and Related Matters
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang-mok on the 8th urged, "In the midst of protectionist policies and escalating geopolitical conflicts, the Economic and Financial Officers should fulfill their roles as supply chain officers in their respective jurisdictions."
Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok is having a luncheon meeting with financial and economic officials at a restaurant inside Yeongcheon Market, located in Dongnimmun, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, on the 8th.
Minister Choi made these remarks during a luncheon meeting with Economic and Financial Officers held at Yeongcheon Market in Dongnimmun on the same day.
He opened by emphasizing that government-to-government cooperation based on trust is more important than anything else to ensure the free activities of companies.
He stressed the need to closely monitor and share information on potential changes in foreign policy directions due to major elections around the world this year, as well as trade issues, and to establish a system capable of responding accordingly.
Furthermore, he requested that Economic and Financial Officers actively play a role in resolving any communication difficulties between domestic companies and local governments or companies in implementing follow-up measures from diplomatic visits.
This Economic and Financial Officers meeting was held for the first time at a traditional market to listen to the current status of livelihoods and policy directions in each country. After the luncheon with the officers, Minister Choi visited stores within Yeongcheon Market to inspect the livelihood conditions ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
Currently, Economic and Financial Officers are dispatched to 18 missions in 14 countries, reporting on economic policy trends of host governments or international organizations.
During the three-day Economic and Financial Officers meeting held from the 6th to the 8th, discussions were held on economic and financial trends by host country, cooperation tasks between local governments, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Korea, as well as implications of population policies by host country.
