Name of Sky Bridge (tentative) Open for Public Submission Until February 14... 93m Bridge to Cross Pond at Gamrocheon Ecological Park in Doksan 4-dong... Soft Night Lighting Surrounds Bridge, Showcasing 12 Constellations for Visitors... Additional 755m Barrier-Free Wooden Trail Created in Park Area, Total Length 1.94km
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that last month it opened the "Sky Bridge (tentative name)" and the "Barrier-Free Wooden Deck Trail" around Gamrocheon Ecological Park.
Gamrocheon Ecological Park is an artificial wetland park located at the foot of Gwanaksan Mountain in Doksan 4-dong, Geumcheon-gu. While restoring the natural wetlands lost due to urbanization, the existing terrain was preserved as much as possible. The park contains a total of three ecological ponds, and is home to trees such as azaleas, rhododendrons, and maple trees, as well as aquatic creatures like frogs and toads.
The district installed the Sky Bridge and the barrier-free wooden deck trail so that vulnerable pedestrians (including people with disabilities, the elderly, and women) can also enjoy the beautiful scenery where the mountains and ponds harmonize.
The Sky Bridge, measuring 93 meters, crosses over a pond within the park, connecting the left and right sides of the barrier-free wooden deck trail. The area around the bridge has become a representative space symbolizing the park with its unique scenery. From the bridge, visitors can enjoy an unobstructed view of the Doksan-dong area and a panoramic view of the Gamrocheon area. At night, subtle lighting representing 12 constellations wraps around the bridge, adding visual appeal and enhancing pedestrian convenience. The constellation lighting was installed inspired by the old name of Doksan-dong (Munseong-dong), which is derived from the fourth star of the Big Dipper.
The barrier-free wooden deck trail is 2 meters wide with a slope of less than 8%, allowing vulnerable pedestrians to comfortably ascend the mountain. In 2021, the first phase was constructed around Geumcheon Sports Park and Doksan Badminton Gymnasium, covering 1.18 km. This year, an additional 755 meters were added around Gamrocheon Ecological Park, completing a dynamic circular route with a total length of 1.94 km.
The district is accepting name suggestions for the Sky Bridge (tentative name) until February 14. Any Geumcheon-gu resident can participate by applying online through Seoul's M-Voting platform or by visiting the Geumcheon-gu Office's Parks and Greenery Division. The district plans to select a name that well reflects the area's identity and history, as well as the park's function and characteristics.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "I hope that vulnerable pedestrians will safely and comfortably enjoy the forest and park by using the Sky Bridge and the barrier-free wooden deck trail," adding, "We will continue to expand convenience facilities within the park to make it a place that satisfies and is accessible to people of all ages and genders."
