Wang Yoonjong Emphasizes Need for Support, Warns of Economic and Security Risks from Technology Leakage in SMEs

Hosted Cybersecurity and Livelihood Meeting with Small and Medium Business Owners

Wang Yoon-jong, the 3rd Deputy Director of the National Security Office, emphasized on the 7th that "in addition to companies' own efforts, government support is necessary for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that find it difficult to invest in security" regarding information security for SMEs.

On the same day, Deputy Director Wang held a cyber security public meeting with officials from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and representatives of SMEs at the SME Technology Protection Center of the Korea Industrial Technology Protection Association in Seocho-gu, Seoul.

Deputy Director Wang pointed out, "If SMEs suffer technology leakage damage due to cyberattacks such as hacking, it can have a significant adverse effect on both the national economy and cyber security."

The National Security Office explained that this field visit focused on encouraging on-site staff who work 24/7 during the Lunar New Year holiday period to ensure SME security, listening to the difficulties SMEs face related to security, and discussing response measures.

Deputy Director Wang especially urged, "In the current situation where cyber threats are escalating, please thoroughly check the preparedness to proactively respond to possible threats ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday."

The National Security Office stated, "By preventing hacking and technology leakage damage directly related to the livelihood of SMEs, we plan to continuously strive to promote policies that consider both economic security and cyber security."
