Professor Ryu Dong-geun Appears to Be Appointed as President of Korea Maritime University

Appointment Approval Passed at the Cabinet Meeting on the 6th

Professor Ryu Dong-geun from the Department of Shipping Management, who was recommended as the second-choice candidate, has been reportedly appointed as the 9th president of Korea Maritime and Ocean University.

According to Korea Maritime and Ocean University on the 7th, the appointment of Professor Ryu, the second-choice candidate for the university president, was approved at the Cabinet meeting held the previous day.

The appointment of a national university president is finalized through a process that includes the election of the first and second-choice candidates within the university, review by the Ministry of Education's Education Officials Personnel Committee, recommendation by the Ministry of Personnel Management, deliberation and resolution by the Cabinet meeting, and final approval by the President.

Professor Do Deok-hee from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, who was the first-choice candidate, reportedly opposed the decision and announced plans for legal action. In the university president candidate election, Professor Do received 51.92% of the votes, while Professor Ryu received 48.08%.
