Naju·Hwasun... Promise of 'Triangle Project' in the Era of Ultra-Wide Local Governments
Balanced Regional Development Centered on Global Energy
Shin Jeong-hoon, the Democratic Party preliminary candidate for the Naju·Hwasun electoral district, has declared that if he is elected in this general election, he will not run in the next 23rd National Assembly election.
On the afternoon of the 7th, at a press conference announcing his general election pledges held at his campaign office, Candidate Shin said, “I will not run in the next election,” adding, “If elected this time, I will fulfill my final mission for the development of Naju·Hwasun as a three-term National Assembly member with a sincere heart to prove my political calling.”
On the afternoon of the 7th, Shin Jeong-hoon, the Democratic Party preliminary candidate for the Naju-Hwasun electoral district, is announcing his general election pledges at the campaign office.
He continued, “There may be various speculations that this is a strategy to overcome an unfavorable electoral landscape or a step toward the next phase,” emphasizing, “I will open more opportunities for excellent junior politicians. That is the natural order for political development and the flow of the times.”
Along with this, he announced a vision to alleviate the concentration in Seoul and the metropolitan area and to open an era of ultra-wide regional government through the ‘Yeongsangang Economic Alliance’ to overcome the crisis of population extinction.
This is the ‘Triangle Project’ connecting the three axes of Naju-Hwasun-Gwangju as a new growth engine for Naju·Hwasun.
Candidate Shin explained that the path Naju and Hwasun should take is a ‘Naju-Hwasun-Gwangju triangular alliance’ that cooperates and coexists with Gwangju.
The Triangle Project specifically plans to create an economic and educational alliance by establishing an ‘energy new industry cluster’ between Naju and Gwangju, and a medical and transportation alliance between Hwasun and Gwangju through the designation of a ‘national advanced medical complex’ and the creation of a Korean-style Boston biomedical cluster.
‘Naju-Hwasun’ will form a tourism and bio-agriculture alliance through the ‘restoration of the Yeongsangang historical and cultural zone and the creation of a bio-agriculture food tech hub.’
His pledges for Naju include ▲promotion of the Yeongsangang Renaissance national project ▲establishment of a school corporation within the innovation city ▲designation and operation of Dalbit Children’s Hospital ▲promotion of the relocation of secondary public institutions and attraction of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation headquarters ▲promotion of the second phase of the Bitgaram Innovation City development plan ▲activation of the station area through the Gyeongjeon Line passing Naju Station ▲promotion of urban regeneration growth projects in the old downtown area ▲attraction of a complex shopping mall ▲construction of a food upcycling research support center ▲promotion of the conversion of Yeongsanpo (Ichang, Yeongsan, Yeonggang-dong) into a town.
His pledges for Hwasun include ▲creation of a closed mine complex tourism district (Zollverein Project) ▲establishment of a wide-area transportation system between Hwasun and Gwangju ▲development of station areas for metropolitan railroads ▲promotion of urban regeneration growth projects in the old downtown area ▲establishment of a heavy ion therapy center at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital ▲creation of a therapy silver town ▲creation of a bio-agriculture food tech hub ▲installation of sluice gates at Dongbuk Dam.
Common pledges include ▲enactment of the Taxi Public Transportation Act and comprehensive reform of public transportation in rural areas ▲realization of rice price normalization through a second Grain Management Act ▲maintenance of green belts and water source protection zones.
Candidate Shin Jeong-hoon stated, “I started the Naju Innovation City together with President Roh Moo-hyun and created the Korea Energy Corporation University with President Moon Jae-in,” adding, “Using this successful model as nourishment, I will enhance the status and competitiveness of our region and present a blueprint for balanced development of Korea led by the region and supported by the government.”
He added, “I will become a ‘strong Democratic Party, powerful National Assembly member’ and use all the experience I have accumulated step by step to fulfill Shin Jeong-hoon’s mission to create the future of Korea from the local area.”
